Stitch-a-long (SAL)

We are hosting a Stitch-A-Long! Back by popular demand, Christel Gouze Elbaz, the owner and creative force behind the French embroidery company, Un Chat dans l'Aiguille, will teach us embroidery stitches, tips, and tricks. And together, we are going to make the Vacation Caravan design.

She will give live instruction and answer your questions.

The SAL sessions will be on Facebook Live at 1:00 PM ET on the following days:

    • Mon, June 7, 2021
    • Mon, June 14 , 2021
    • Mon, June 21, 2021
    • Mon, June 28 , 2021
    • Wed, July 7 , 2021

To join the live-streamed event on Facebook (FB), go to our Brooklyn Haberdashery FB page. During the live stream, this is where we will respond to your questions via chat. We also encourage you to join the Facebook group called Brooklyn Haberdashery SAL because you can post progress and ask questions in the group. If at all possible, we recommend you join the SAL via Facebook; it will be a richer experience for you.

The session will be recorded, so you'll also be able to catch up if you miss a session. Or the video is there for you to review the stitches, if need be.

The instruction is free, and we have the supplies to make it easy to participate: the pre-printed fabric, a thread bundle, and a download of the design that you can trace onto your own fabric.

The instructions for each step are available via the Brooklyn Haberdashery Facebook page or website on the day before each session of the SAL.

You'll need a couple essential embroidery supplies -- a hoop and needles.

For needles Christel recommends a size No. 9, but for those who find it difficult to thread a needle, you may prefer the larger eye of a size No. 5 or 6.

You'll also want to use an embroidery hoop to keep your fabric taut. Most adults find that a hoop size No. 2 (5.1") fits well in their hands, and Christel prefers a smaller hoop size No. 1 (3.9"). If you want to frame your finished piece, a hoop size No. 5 works well.

There is no specific registration required. The event is free and open to all. Just gather the materials you need and join us on Facebook at the appointed time!

In the past, we also hosted a SAL for the Noël Star. The materials and instructions are still here for you, and the recorded videos are available for you to watch. You may do that SAL at your own pace any time you like.
