This is a single plate from a rare portfolio documenting traditional Japanese textiles. Originally compiled by Senshoku to Seikatsusha under the supervision of Shoichi Goto and edited by Kiyotaro Tsujiai, the full set contained 150 samples from ten textile regions across Japan—from Kyushu to Okinawa.

We are offering individual plates from the collection, each featuring a mounted textile swatch on thick handmade washi paper, with the name of the fabric, region, and weaver printed in Japanese. A photo of the translated text is included with each listing. Please note that machine translation offers a general sense of the terms—region, weave, and artisan—but may not capture the full nuance of human interpretation.

While it was a difficult decision to separate the set, we believe these stunning examples of Japan’s regional weaving traditions deserve to be seen, studied, and appreciated more widely. You may wish to collect several plates by theme—grouped by region, weave structure, or color palette. These pieces also make a striking visual impact when framed and displayed as a series.
