Handwoven Sakiori - Spring Snowfield

$114.00 Sale Save

Old kimono fabric is washed, dyed, torn, and rewoven into this soft, light-filled sakiori textile.

The palette calls to mind a quiet spring thaw—misty blues, pale greens, and the gentle movement of animals stepping through melting snow. The weaving is moderately firm yet supple, making it equally at home as a table runner, wall hanging, or wrapped as a scarf.

Handwoven in Japan using reclaimed kimono fabrics, this piece reflects the long tradition of sakiori—Japan’s centuries-old rag-weaving method. Much like American rag rugs, sakiori repurposes worn cloth into something entirely new, but with a finer, more intricate hand.

The fabric is hand washed twice—once when the material is newly torn, and once again after weaving—to test for colorfastness and shrinkage.

  • May show slight color fading over time

  • Hand wash recommended (press wash without wringing; machine washable on gentle), dry in the shade, and iron from the inside out

  • Primarily cotton with wool used only in the fox, bear, and deer motifs

  • Moderately firm and soft; gentle on the skin even for those sensitive to wool

  • Some pilling may be present due to mixed fibers
