Punch Needle Embroidery

Punch Needle Embroidery uses yarn or thread to produce a highly-textured pile design on fabric. It uses a pen-like tool to push thread or yarn through the fabric forming the  loops of the pile.

To do punch needle embroidery, you'll need:

  1. Punch needle tool -- a hollow needle-like tool that is used to repeatedly pierce the fabric to create loops with yarn or thread. Choose a tool to match the width of the yarn or thread you want to use.
  2. Yarn or thread that fits your tool
  3. Cloth with a tight weave e.g. weaver's cloth
  4. A hoop for frame to tightly hold your cloth e.g. a punch needle hoop or for smaller pieces, an embroidery hoop will work, too
