Handwoven Sakiori - Mosaic of Light & Dark
A woven story made from reclaimed kimono cloth
This one-of-a-kind sakiori textile is handwoven from vintage kimono fabrics that have been washed, dyed, torn into narrow strips, and rewoven into something new. Sakiori—Japan’s traditional method of weaving with recycled cloth—shares roots with the American rag-rug tradition, but here the strips are cut much finer, resulting in a softer, more intricate textile with elegant drape and refined detail.
This piece blends primarily silk kimono weft with subtle cotton and wool accents, forming a mosaic of light and dark tones reminiscent of emerging from shadow into brightness. Because the weaving incorporates many different fabrics, the surface includes soft, puffy, or fuzzy areas that reveal the character of the original cloth.
Use it as a scarf, table runner, altar cloth, or wall hanging—its versatility and texture make it a beautiful addition to any textile lover’s home or wardrobe.
