A tiny kit with everything you need to stitch on the go

This pocket-sized sashiko set brings together tools, thread, and a whimsical pouch whose story is expressed through weaving, embroidery, and print by Japanese poet–artist moritaMiW. It’s designed to carry anywhere.

Just grap in a piece of cloth and you’re ready to stitch. The pouch holds every essential tool without extra bulk, and the embroidered kappa perched on a riverside rock adds a playful sense of story and imagination.

About the design
In Japanese folklore, a kappa (“river child”) is a water-dwelling yōkai known for its childlike size, green skin, webbed limbs, and a dish on its head that holds its power. Mischievous yet deeply polite, kappas are famous for their love of cucumbers and for getting into both harmless trouble and mythical misadventures.

This design captures MiW’s storytelling: the kappa pausing on a rock, snack in hand, reflecting on life and last night’s sumo match. The scene blends humor and tenderness—part of what makes MiW’s textile work so beloved.
