Blocked Floral Sakiori Handwoven Scarf Table Runner
An architectural piece built from fragments of cloth and time
This sakiori textile is handwoven from reclaimed kimono fabric that has been washed, dyed, torn into strips, and rewoven. The composition leans toward a patchwork grid—blocks of indigo, charcoal, and muted tones, punctuated with small areas of red that feel almost like stitched accents.
The weft is made from a blend of cotton and silk kimono fabric (approximately 80% cotton, 20% silk), while the warp uses two tones of thick cotton thread. The slightly open, loose weave gives the fabric a softer hand than it first appears, while still maintaining a structured, substantial feel.
It works equally well worn as a narrow scarf or used in the home as a table runner—where the woven blocks and subtle irregularities can be appreciated up close.
You may notice fine fibers from the torn fabric, especially when worn. This is a natural characteristic of sakiori and speaks to its reclaimed origins.
