Tiles on Sand Sakiori Handwoven Scarf

Soft, subtle, and richly textured, this one-of-a-kind sakiori scarf is handwoven from reclaimed vintage textiles. Inspired by scattered ceramic tiles resting on warm sand, its quiet palette of natural beige is punctuated by small woven blocks of soft blues, golds, rust, and cream, creating a composition that is both modern and timeless.

The artist creates each piece by washing, dyeing, tearing, and weaving antique cotton textiles into a new fabric. Unlike many sakiori works that combine silk and wool, this scarf is woven entirely from reclaimed cotton, including vintage kimono linings, furoshiki wrapping cloths, and an Indian cotton shawl. Naturally dyed warp threads—including oregano-dyed and indigo- and plant-dyed cotton—add subtle depth and variation throughout the weaving. The finished textile has the comforting softness of a favorite sweatshirt, making it equally beautiful to wear or display.

Because each piece is woven by hand from reclaimed fabrics, slight irregularities, soft texture, and a few loose fibers are natural characteristics of authentic sakiori.

Care: Hand washed by the artist before and after weaving. Hand wash gently in cool water, lay flat or hang to dry in the shade, and iron from the reverse if needed. Some color bleeding and a few loose fibers may occur, which are normal characteristics of naturally dyed, handwoven textiles.
