Indian Summer Sakiori Handwoven Shawl
A one-of-a-kind shawl woven from reclaimed kimono cloth — soft, textured, and full of story
This handwoven sakiori shawl is created using strips of vintage kimono fabric that have been washed, dyed, torn by hand, and rewoven into a new textile. The result is a cloth with visible rhythm and movement — subtle irregularities that speak to its handmade origin.
Sakiori is a traditional Japanese weaving technique developed to extend the life of precious textiles. Here, slub cotton warp threads are interlaced with repurposed kimono fabric, creating a fabric that feels unexpectedly soft — with a hand reminiscent of wool or silk, yet breathable and easy to wear.
Each piece carries gentle variation in tone and texture. It is not factory-perfect — and that is precisely its beauty.
The fabric has been hand washed twice: once when originally made, and again after weaving.
Wear it as a shawl, stole, or generous wrap. It drapes beautifully over coats, dresses, or simple knits, adding warmth without weight.
Care
Due to the nature of reclaimed and hand-dyed materials, slight color variation or soft fading may occur over time.
Gently hand wash without wringing (press water out), dry in the shade, and iron from the reverse side if needed.
