Red Stripes Sakiori Handwoven Scarf
A vibrant handwoven sakiori scarf made from reclaimed kimono textiles
This one-of-a-kind scarf is handmade using strips of vintage kimono fabrics that are washed, dyed, torn, and rewoven using the traditional Japanese sakiori technique. The result is a lively textile with colorful horizontal striping created from a mixture of silk, cotton, and wool kimono cloth.
The weave has a slightly fuzzy surface and subtle irregularities in width—characteristics that reflect the handmade nature of the piece and the varied fibers used in the original garments. The cloth feels moderately firm yet soft and gentle to the touch.
This narrow format works beautifully as a neck wrap, table runner, or decorative textile.
The material has been hand washed twice—once during the preparation of the cloth and again after the weaving was completed.
Care
Some color fading may occur over time. Wash gently by hand without wringing (press water out), dry in the shade, and iron from the reverse side if needed. A washing machine spin cycle may be used to remove excess water.
