$12.00 Sale • Save

Elevate your textile work with this exquisite vintage silk from Japan. Originally woven for kimono, this fabric is rich in both craftsmanship and cultural heritage. Most pieces are 30-50 years old and were carefully preserved in bolts.

These silks feature traditional Japanese dyeing and weaving techniques, including hand-dyed motifs, intricate jacquards, and textured weaves. The hand-feel ranges from crisp to buttery soft depending on the technique and age, with some showing light patina or delicate slubs from natural fibers.

Sold by the half yard e.g. 1 unit is 1/2 yd; 3 units is 1-1/2 yds. Additional units will be sent as continuous yardage.

  • 100% vintage silk

  • Traditional kimono width: 13"–14" (33–35.5 cm)

  • May show minor signs of age such as slight fading, foxing, or tiny spots

  • Made in Japan

Care Instructions for Vintage Japanese Silk

Because these are delicate vintage silks, some care is needed:

  • Hand wash only – cool water, gentle soap (pH-neutral or baby shampoo)

  • Do not wring or twist – gently squeeze water out and lay flat to dry

  • Do not bleach or dry clean – dry cleaning solvents can damage older dyes and fibers

  • Iron with care – use low heat, on the reverse side, with a press cloth

  • Avoid prolonged soaking – natural dyes may bleed or fade

  • Test a small area first – some silks, especially older ones, may react unpredictably to water

Pro Tip: If you’re unsure about washing, especially for detailed or fragile pieces, consider using it as-is for art quilts, embroidery, or applique rather than laundering.
