Style Med Blue

This softly saturated blue thread is part of a larger, unfinished kasuri project—an indigo-dyed weaving technique where the pattern is created in the threads before the cloth is woven. The strands here were carefully wrapped with waxed resist thread and then dyed in indigo. Unlike traditional kasuri results, the resist didn’t quite hold—leaving these threads with a more even tone and only the faintest hints of variation. Perhaps that’s why the fabric was never woven.

This particular variant shows a slightly deeper, duskier hue than the brighter blue version. Still, the beauty of the handwork is unmistakable—and the wrapped textures make this thread a joy to explore, unwrap, and stitch into your own story.

Uses
While this thread wasn’t originally intended for hand-stitching, it can be used creatively with beautiful results. The strands appear to be single-ply twisted and are surprisingly strong—they don’t break easily when pulled. We've tested stitching with one, two, and three strands. All hold well, though the experience differs from using sashiko or embroidery floss:

  • For best results, use with loosely woven fabrics or pre-punched surfaces.

  • Expect texture: the thread isn’t smooth, but has subtle nubs and may resist being pulled through tightly woven fabric.

  • Multiple strands won’t lie flat like embroidery floss—they create a more textured, organic look.

We recommend it for:

  • Slow stitching

  • Textile collage and raw-edge appliqué

  • Couching for textured surface design

  • Mixed-media fiber art projects

This is thread that celebrates imperfection, intention, and process.

Photos show the full hank as found, and the results after removing the resist wrapping. You’ll receive a 30" length. This variant is labeled “B” in the comparison photo, which shows it next to the slightly lighter "A", which is the Wrapped Bright Indigo.
