A one-of-a-kind sakiori scarf woven from reclaimed kimono fabrics with a playful block pattern

This handmade piece is created from vintage kimono textiles that are washed, sometimes dyed, torn into strips, and rewoven using the traditional Japanese sakiori technique.

The fabric is woven primarily from kimono cloth (approximately 70% cotton and 30% wool) and features a lively block pattern reminiscent of a child’s crayon drawings. When the textile catches the light, a subtle navy and black warp pattern becomes visible beneath the surface.

Because multiple fabrics with different textures are woven together, some areas of the cloth may appear slightly raised, soft, or fuzzy. These variations are a natural part of the material and add depth and character to the finished textile.

Materials

Kimono fabrics (approximately 70% cotton, 30% wool)

Dimensions

Length: 59.8" (152 cm) excluding tassels
Width: 7.1" (18 cm)

Texture

Soft to the touch with a hand similar to a thick jersey knit. Not itchy.

Care

The textile has been hand washed twice—once during fabric preparation and again after weaving.
Some color fading may occur. Wash gently by hand without wringing (press water out). A washing machine spin cycle may be used to remove excess water. Dry in the shade and iron from the reverse side if needed.
