Four Sandals Sakiori Tapestry
A playful composition with a strong graphic rhythm—pairs of woven sandals, set against a vivid ground
This handwoven sakiori tapestry is made from reclaimed kimono fabric that has been washed, dyed, torn into strips, and rewoven. The bright red field sets the stage for four pairs of sandals, each rendered directly into the weave—not appliquéd or added later, but built as part of the cloth itself.
The sandal forms vary slightly in color and texture, giving each pair its own presence while maintaining a balanced vertical layout. The piece is finished with a woven fringe and subtle glass bead accents that add a bit of movement and weight.
Though compact in size, it has a strong visual impact—well-suited for a narrow wall, entryway, or layered among other textiles.
Because a variety of materials are used, you may notice natural irregularities in the weave, including slight variation in width, texture, and areas of softness or fuzz. These are inherent to sakiori and part of its handmade character.
