Muddy Lights Sakiori Woven Scarf
A one-of-a-kind sakiori scarf woven from reclaimed kimono textiles and textured yarns
This handmade piece is created using vintage kimono fabrics that are washed, sometimes dyed, torn into strips, and rewoven using the traditional Japanese sakiori technique.
The design incorporates yellow cotton furoshiki cloth and kimono fabrics—roughly half cotton and half silk—and depicts the image of a horse galloping through mud. Because the textile combines fabrics with different textures and weights, some areas of the surface appear slightly raised, soft, or fuzzy.
These subtle variations are a natural part of the weaving process and add depth and character to the finished cloth.
Materials
Cotton kimono furoshiki
Cotton and silk kimono fabrics
Cotton slub yarn (colors: Goldenrod and Rosemary)
“Moss Garden” mohair yarn
Dimensions
Length: 59" (150 cm) excluding tassels
Width: approximately 7.1–7.5" (18–19 cm)
Texture
The fabric has a soft hand similar to a thick jersey knit and feels comfortable against the skin.
Care
The textile has been hand washed twice—once during weaving and again after completion.
Some color fading may occur. Wash gently by hand without wringing (press water out), dry in the shade, and iron from the reverse side if needed.
