Vintage Japanese Kumihimo Silk Thread
Beautiful hand-dyed silk thread from Japan, traditionally used for kumihimo braiding, tassels, decorative cords, and other fine textile work. Soft, strong, and naturally lustrous, these silk bundles showcase the depth and subtle variation that make hand-dyed fibers so appealing.
Each full skein is 100% silk and remains wrapped in its original paper sleeve from the dyeing process. The colors range from soft pastels to rich jewel tones, making them equally lovely for traditional braiding, embroidery embellishment, slow stitching, fiber art, ornament making, and textile collecting.
These are vintage, unused skeins. Some have light fading where the exposed loops extend beyond the paper sleeve. The color variation is generally subtle but visible in bright light. Because these are vintage hand-dyed silk threads, we recommend testing for colorfastness before using them in projects that may be washed or exposed to moisture.
The original packaging has been preserved, adding to the charm of these authentic Japanese textile materials.

Made in Japan
Kumihimo is the traditional Japanese art of braiding silk cords. The threads are braided on a foam kumihimo disk or a traditional wooden marudai stand to create beautiful round, flat, or patterned cords used for jewelry, garment ties, wrapping cords, and decorative trim.
