There’s something deeply satisfying about the clean, precise cut of a well-made shear—especially when it carries the quiet weight of history in your hand. These standard 240mm (9.5") Japanese sewing scissors are a testament to that legacy.

We’ve selected each pair from our personal collection of vintage tools. Anthony, our resident restoration expert, has meticulously cleaned, sharpened, and tested every set. These are some of the finest textile shears we’ve handled—beautifully balanced, crisp at the edge, and ready to return to service.

Crafted in the tradition of Japanese blacksmithing, these carbon steel shears come from a long lineage of high-performance cutting tools. Japanese shears are known for their durability, edge retention, and precise geometry—traits inherited from a legacy of sword-making. Each pair was made to last a lifetime or more, with steel that takes a keen edge and delivers excellent control through a range of fabrics.

The handles retain most of their original black enamel—typically 80–95% intact—with wear patterns unique to each pair. This natural patina doesn’t affect performance; it simply adds character. The blades may show signs of age, but the cutting edge is clean and exacting.

These shears are intended for textile use and require only basic care. A few times per year, apply a light coat of sewing machine oil or camellia oil to protect the blades—then wipe off any excess.

Bonus: We offer free resharpening to keep your shears performing at their best. (Shipping not included; if the blades have been damaged or used on non-textile materials, please reach out for guidance.)
